The Queensland government has released its plans to ease restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals once the state reaches its 80 percent double dose vaccination target for Queensland residents aged 16 years and older. This milestone is expected to take place on December 17, 2021.
Venues or activities that only allow access to fully vaccinated people can operate without any density restrictions starting December 17. Contact tracing through the Check-In Qld app is still required.
Unvaccinated individuals face more restrictions
While those who are fully vaccinated can look forward to the easing of restrictions, those who are not fully vaccinated by December 17 will have to face more restrictions. They will not be allowed to:
- access hospitality venues such as restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs, taverns, clubs and hotels
- access music venues, nightclubs, concerts, theatres, cinemas, karaoke bars and other indoor entertainment venues
- access outdoor entertainment facilities such as sporting stadiums and theme parks
- attend indoor or outdoor festivals
- access Queensland Government-owned museums, galleries or libraries
- visit vulnerable settings such as hospitals, disability care accommodation, residential aged care and prisons, with some exceptions for medical treatment, end-of-life visits, childbirth and emergency situations
Weddings that have unvaccinated individuals participating in the wedding party, attending as guests or working as officials will be limited to a maximum of 20 people.
What can you use as proof of vaccination?
As of November 19, Queenslanders can use their Check-In Qld app to link to their vaccination certificate. Other valid proof of vaccination includes:
- COVID-19 digital certificate from Medicare-linked MyGov account
- immunisation history statement
- international COVID-19 vaccination certificate

What does this mean for businesses?
Businesses affected by these new public health measures must:
- display the vaccination rules on premises
- check for proof of vaccination during check-in for individuals aged 16 years old and over
- ask individuals to leave if they cannot or refuse to provide proof of vaccination
- call the police for assistance if an individual refuses to leave the business
Businesses with these restrictions must have both staff and customers be fully vaccinated in order to work or be allowed access.
